Nefathenia, Nef for short, is a nine-year-old girl who likes to go to the beach as well as lots of other things. One day she finds a small, stuffed penguin on the beach. This is no ordinary penguin however; this penguin can talk! Puck the Magic Penguin has already had a few adventures of his own by the time he meets Nef, but Nef's parents don't want a dirty, smelly stuffed penguin in their home and refuse to let Nef keep Puck. Nef is determined to bring Puck home and enlists the help of her best friend, Sherry, to accomplish her goal. What hazards await the girls as they try to find a way back to the beach on their own and find a tiny stuffed penguin? Will Puck survive in the wild beach world of crabs, seagulls and bad weather before Nef can make it back to rescue him?
